What if working out and following your schedule and eating healthy and getting that to-do list done was easy? I’m going to let you in on a little secret. It CAN be.
It comes down to following 3 simple steps:
- Plan what you’re doing to do and what you’re going to eat and your workout, 24 hours in advance. Put it in your calendar with the time you’re going to do it and how long it’ll take.
- When the time comes to do what your schedule says, just know that you’re absolutely not going to want to do it. You’ll think it’s the activity itself (hint: it’s not) that you don’t want to do and FOR SURE it’s better that you do this thing right now and that thing later. That’s your brain wanting to keep you comfortable. That’s normal. Tell your brain: I hear you. But I’m doing my scheduled thing anyway. And do it.
- Feel the discomfort and deprivation and restlessness and boredom and anything else that comes up. It’s just a feeling.
Repeat. Learn. Notice what your brain wants to tell you. Notice alllll of the reasons it gives you as to why you can’t follow a schedule. None of them are true. I promise. Your brain just really wants you to stay safe and comfortable. Your brain thinks anything new is dangerous and you def need to go eat those cookies instead. Nothing has gone wrong. In fact, it means your brain is working perfectly.
